College football scores, results: Georgia, Tennessee come up with huge SEC wins - Yahoo Sports

Oct 20, 2024

Week 8 was a big one for the SEC.

In the first of the two marquee matchups of the night, No. 11 Tennessee overcame a rough start to knock off No. 7 Alabama, 24-17, in a dramatic finish. Then, later, No. 5 Georgia welcomed No. 1 Texas to the SEC in proper fashion, giving the Longhorns their first loss this season in a 30-15 battle.

In other action, quarterback Brady Cook suffered an early injury before leading No. 19 Missouri back for a win against Auburn in a gritty performance. Also dinged up on Saturday: Travis Hunter. Colorado's two-way star left at halftime after aggravating a shoulder injury, but the Buffaloes didn't need him in a blowout win over Arizona.

No. 9 Iowa State stayed undefeated on the year with a late comeback win over a lively UCF team. The Cyclones trailed by two touchdowns in the second half of a fluky game before rallying and scoring the game-winning TD in the final minute.

In the Big Ten, defending national champion Michigan suffered its third loss of the season, falling to No. 22 Illinois, and USC dropped its third straight conference game in a stunner at Maryland.

That'll do it for this one. Texas had made its way down the field and was at Georgia's 11-yard line, but Quinn Ewers couldn't find anybody on fourth down and the Bulldogs will win it.

There's just 30 seconds left in the game

Meanwhile, Iowa State is driving to take the lead with under a minute left in the game.

Facing a fourth-and-12, Quinn Ewers throws it to Ryan Wingo, but the freshman is short of the sticks.

The Bulldogs will surely try to bleed the clock out now.

A second Georgia defender was just ejected for targeting as the Longhorns move the ball into field goal range.

There's 6 minutes left in the game. Can Quinn Ewers take advantage and lead a comeback?

The Longhorns had moved the ball into Georgia territory but couldn't convert on fourth down when Quinn Ewers fumbled the ball.

The Bulldogs couldn't do anything with the ensuing possession though, so it'll be Texas ball again at its own 20.

It's a two-score game again after Trevor Etienne barrels into the end zone for a score on fourth-and-goal. That's the third touchdown of the game for the Florida transfer.

Texas had all the momentum before that 11-play, 89-yard drive.

How does this still happen ... in 2024? (Nobody recovered the ball, so UCF retained possession and scored shortly thereafter.)

The Bulldogs are on the move and looking for a rebuttal. Carson Beck hit Oscar Delp for a 43-yard gain shortly after another big chunk play and Georgia is near the red zone.

The Longhorns are in the end zone after Quinn Ewers finds Jaydon Blue out of the backfield for a 17-yard score.

In a bizarre moment after Texas fans rained down water bottles on the field, the officials huddled up and decided it wasn't pass interference after all.

The Longhorns had a pick and a long interception return wiped out by a defensive pass interference call on this play and Texas fans are not happy about it.

Georgia's defense holds strong on the edge of the red zone as Texas QB Quinn Ewers misfires on fourth-and-6. The Bulldogs will have it back at their own 30-yard line.

The Longhorns got out of the shadow of their own goal post with a deep ball from Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden.

Now they're on the march and nearing the red zone.

Texas forced a quick punt and has the ball back, but it's deep in its own territory at the 5-yard line.

The Cyclones find the end zone as Rocco Becht runs it in at the goal line to cut into UCF's lead.

Quinn Ewers caps off an 8-play, 55-yard drive with a short TD throw to Isaiah Bond.

After a two-point conversion from Ewers to Bond, it's 23-8.
